Obesity is a disease and a growing problem throughout the world. As GPs we help manage chronic conditions on a daily basis. We recognise the significant advances in obesity treatments and are excited to offer these to aid your weight loss journey. Evidence shows that the injectable weight loss treatment Tirzepatide (brand name Mounjaro) can help you lose up to 22% of your body weight and is most effective alongside regular exercise and a well balanced diet.
Mounjaro mimics the body’s natural hormones called GLP-1 and GIP. It does this by:
- Supporting fat loss
- Supporting craving control
- Reducing your appetite
- Keeping you fuller for longer by slowing down how quickly food leaves your stomach
- Controlling your blood sugars
Mounjaro is a self administered once weekly injection. It comes as a pen injector which is easy to use, transport and store.
Whilst Mounjaro is the most effective weight loss injectable medication, there may be circumstances that require us to use Semaglutide (brand name Wegovy) instead. This works only on GLP-1 receptors. This can help you lose up to 15% of your body weight. We can this supply too.
As of April 2025, we now offer a GP led weight management service with Dr Kelly Adams. We aim to help you achieve your weight loss goals and importantly to improve your overall health and general wellbeing. This can reduce your risk of chronic health problems like type 2 diabetes and heart disease. As GPs we are already familiar with using similar medications in our day to day practice, for example in diabetic patients. It is for this reason that we are also able to confidently prescribe this in conjunction with diabetic medications.
You can access both virtual or telephone consultations with an experienced GP who has expertise in weight management. Together you will achieve a shared management plan which if appropriate will include the use of the prescribed weight loss injections.
However, unfortunately due to the surgery’s GMS contract with NHS Wales, we are unable to offer this service to our own Tyn Y Coed patients. We understand this is frustrating.
Prior to the appointment, we ask that you complete a medical questionnaire in order to appropriately risk assess you. An initial 30 minute consultation will then be conducted whereby we will formulate an individualised weight management plan for you, including a 1 month prescription of Mounjaro if appropriate and safe. You will then have a review appointment at both one month and at two months. In each review appointment we will monitor your progress, address any issues and prescribe further 1 month supply Mounjaro.
From there and throughout the duration of your treatment, short 10 minute review appointments can be conducted at 3 monthly intervals where by a three monthly prescriptions can be issued. We will provide prescription doses that are individualised to you to ensure that you receive the most appropriate dose for you and only what you need. This therefore makes sure that you do not receive excessive doses and unnecessary cost.
Pricing
We have aimed to achieve a cost that is both affordable and fair. The cost reflects the expertise and security of having a GP, in person or via video call, initiate your treatment and monitor your care, whilst offering Mounjaro at the most competitive rates.
GP led weight management service from either £150/month or £199/month depending on which medication prescribed.
The followings costs are inclusive of consultation fees, prescription fee, sharps box and delivery to Tyn Y Coed Surgery for collection.
Home delivery is an additional cost of £10 next day delivery or £6 48 hour delivery.

Transfer of care

There may be some patients who are already established on medication by an alternative provider, but would like to transfer their care to us. We welcome those who want to change to TYC cosmetics and are more than happy to take over your care. To ensure safety and good quality of care, we just request that you complete our medical questionnaire and allow us to conduct a short 15 minute consultation which can be done either face to face or virtual. You can then go on to receive your prescriptions from us at your current dosage.
